It is such a joy to visit my home state of Florida. The powdery sand and turquoise water quickly flood my memory of my childhood and young adult years spending time at the beach. The salty breeze and balmy air are so vivid.
Anna Maria Island is a popular location for local Floridians to take a staycation, yet it also attracts travelers from around the world. This area of Florida is well know for some of the world’s best beaches. The remote location of Anna Maria Island, west of main land Bradenton and north of Sarasota, is a slower paced off the beaten path beach vacation area that attracts low-key visitors. While staying here, I had the opportunity to photograph a long time college friend. The Tampa family enjoys Anna Maria Island very much and were excited to have their family portrait session at secluded Bean Point.
Bean Point is a unique area, because it is a public beach nestled between private beach rental homes. Narrow alleys with palm tree canopies lead to a large sand dune area with a meadow of seagrass, followed by an extra wide white powdery beach. The sky provided perfect hues of pastel colors that reminded me of cotton candy! The magic in Bean Point is that it provides a multitude of opportunities for photos. Start in the alley with filtered light, then venture onto the sand dunes with the sun rays beaming through the grass. The night is wrapped up on the shore as the sun sets, and the clouds light up with spectacular color.
I always love great black and white images. Here is a look at my favorite black and whites! They tend to portray emotion in a more vivid way.
