This fall I highlighted a favorite location in Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex- The Mandalay Canals. They are a hidden gem nestled in Las Colinas, an outskirt of Irving, Texas. It is located in a suburban – urban area with shopping and upscale dining of many cuisines within minutes from this location. Because of it’s convenient location and family friendly attractions in close proximity, it makes a perfect spot for elegant and classic family portraits.
Planning Your Family Portraits
As I prepared my families for their portrait experience, I sent them my wardrobe guide, which provides helpful guidance in planning clothing for a portrait session. It’s important to put some thought and time in planning the clothing, especially when it involves a family. Some of the most important advice I provide is to:
- Wear complimentary colors. Choose up to three colors that coordinate, but not matching.
- Avoid matching. Include a variety of pieces of clothing that compliment each other.
- Match the wardrobe style to the location’s atmosphere. Mandalay Canals are elegant. Several of my families chose an upscale sophisticated style while others chose a casual neutral color palate.
- Grooming counts! Take the extra steps for a clean shave, tucked in shirts, hair and makeup, as well as fresh nail polish. These little touches go far!
