Wedding Photography St. Sava Orthodox Church in Allen, Texas
What a beautiful summer day to photograph an Orthodox Wedding for the lovely couple. Previously we had days and days of torrential rain, however, the clouds cleared and provided beautiful sun on this wedding day! It was such a joyful ceremony marked with elegance and charm. The bride’s mother meticulously sewed the vintage style wedding dress made of satin! While the groom’s attire was so classy and perfect for his bride.

Richness of Sacred Tradition
Orthodox ceremonies are steeped in ancient tradition and sacred scripture. They’re a spectacle to behold as the time for each portion of the liturgy has deep meaning. Every piece, word, and action has a purpose. It is captivating to behold.

Betrothal and Blessing of the Rings
Unlike Western wedding ceremonies, Orthodox weddings start at the rear or entrance of the church where the bride enters with her father and is given to the groom. Here, the priest blesses the bride and groom and conducts the blessing and exchange of rings.

Candles Represent the Light of the World
Now betrothed, the bride and groom join right hands as they enter the naive. They are given candles to represent their commitment to be a Light to the World.

Crowning
Next is one of the memorable portions of an Orthodox wedding when the bride and groom receive crowns. This represents their Christian commitment to their home, future crowns in heaven, as well as the Christian crown of martyrdom.

The Common Cup: The Wedding at Cana
Christ’s first miracle took place at The Wedding at Cana in which he turned water into wine. This Gospel story is the center piece of Orthodox weddings. The bride and groom drink out of the common cup of wine to symbolize their unity as well as in memorial to the Wedding at Cana.

Dance of Isaiah
The bride and groom and sponsors are lead around the wedding table three times by the wedding celebrant while the hymn “Rejoice, O Isaiah” is sung by the choir.

Husband and Wife, Processional, Greeting
Last, the bride and groom receive an icon of Mary and Jesus. They will process to the narthex where weddings guests will venerate Christ and The Virgin Mary as well as great the married coupled.

Reception
A reception organized by family members and friends took place on church grounds. The couple celebrated with a lovely feast of Russian cuisine as well as elegant dancing by the bride and groom! Fun was had by all. The close knit church, loving family, and supportive friends gathered for a time of fellowship and celebration.

A farewell with bird seed!

A Moment for Special Wedding Portraits
After the reception exit, I took an hour to photograph the bride and groom at special locations at the church property. Then we drove to Oak Point Park and Nature Preserve in Plano.
