Babies are like little suns that, in a magical way, bring warmth, happiness and light into our lives. -Kartini Diapari-Oengider
I had such a wonderful time photographing this family. Their little bundle of joy slept the entire time! Her nursery was so beautiful with crisp light and lovely decor and bedding to compliment her simple sleeper robe. I also incorporated a Moses basket for several photos. Something about a baby sleeping in a basket pulls my heart strings. The family provided handmade blankets for the props. It is always so important to include special family keepsakes in the newborn photos.
To keep babies calm and comfortable, I always recommend the 5 S’s. A combination of them usually gives the magic touch for a peaceful session.
Reflecting on 2018 leaves me feeling quite proud, thankful, and fulfilled! This photography business has blossomed exponentially, and that is due to all of the wonderful clients and mentors I have met along the way! Nothing would have been possible without these people!
I took the year as an opportunity to explore a variety of photography genres from outdoor natural light to studio settings. From newborn, to maternity, from families to extended families, I experienced all forms of family photography sessions. I also ventured into high school senior portraits as well as engagement photography and assisting at weddings. This time of exploration introduced me to many wonderful people including photographers, models, and the sweetest clients!
The year has also brought accomplishments and philanthropic opportunities. I am so very thankful for making front cover of Iconic Child magazine. It was such an honor!
In addition, I have donated my time and photography to the Mercy Run organization that provides resources for families who have lost a child/ sibling. I enjoyed photographing their annual fundraiser Fun Run/ 5k/ 10K event. Giving my time to this cause is near and dear to me as I know the grief encountered with losing a sibling. I also had the pleasure of offering complimentary family photo sessions to six first responder families during the DFW 9/11 First Responder Event. It is my pleasure to invest my time in non profit organizations that connect with me deeply.
The goal for 2019 is to hone in on my specialities and further develop my art to serve my clients with the very best quality and costumer service. I am so appreciative of the fact that my clients have trusted me completely with capturing their family bonds. Preserving these moments is the most precious gift I can provide.
Cheers to 2019! May we all have a prosperous year!
Maternity and newborn photographer Flower Mound. It is so lovely to watch a family grown and change. This family chose to have maternity and newborn photos taken. They made the decision fast with both sessions taking place in the same month! They welcomed their first baby boy shortly after the maternity session. The two big sisters were so happy to meet their brother. Because this family recently moved into a new home, they could not have their photographs taken in home for the newborn session. I opened my studio to them for newborn family portraits. It was wonderful to have them. The sisters also wore dresses from my client closet. They felt like princesses!
Newborn photography sessions are such sweet moments. I love entering the clients’ home to capture the joy and love that comes with a baby. Newborn sessions are very casual and take place in the clients’ home.
Posed and Candid – During the session a variety of images are captured. Some will be posed, like with the family dog or the newborn resting. The poses are casual poses, they will not take a lot of time. Most of the poses are candid in nature. In that, I will suggest a place to sit and encourage interaction between the family by suggesting to hug, laugh, or look at the camera.
Home – The session occurs at the clients home. Usually mid morning to early afternoon are great times. The lighting is great, and usually this is before the baby’s “witching hour.” Do not frantically clean the entire house. Many photos will occur in the nursery, the master bedroom, and any space that has a large window. Usually, very little of the actual home is shown in images. The focus is the family and baby.
Natural Light – Different from studio settings, lifestyle newborn utilizes natural light. When I arrive, I tell the client to turn off all overhead lights, pull up the blinds, and open the curtains. This type of light source is really beautiful. In case, I do carry an external light source, but I usually don’t need it.
Relaxed – The pace of the session is very casual. Before arriving, I instruct the parents to feed the baby and to turn the air up to 70 degrees. Creating a warm and cozy environment is key. Some other “tools” to have on hand include a pacifier (if baby uses one), sound machine, and blankets or swaddles. During the session we will break as needed, whether for the baby or siblings.
Entire Family – Lifestyle sessions include the entire family. Of course the baby will be captured alone. The beauty of lifestyle is it captures interactions between family members.
